Facing the Critic
It can be completely effortless to name those critics in our lives who have flooded us with disapproving messages. Their names appear to us almost instantly. But it can be a much harder task to recognize that many times, the most critical voice in our lives is our own. We can be unbelievably harsh on ourselves. We know exactly where our own vulnerable places lie, and we are skilled at berating ourselves with sharp criticism that targets those vulnerabilities with unparalleled accuracy. And yet we somehow believe that although we would never condone this kind of behavior from others, it is acceptable for us to mistreat ourselves. It is even warranted.

In this workshop, we will use the creative process to explore the idea that our harshest critic can sometimes live within us. We’ll also look at what possible freedom might be found by facing that critic, and questioning the validity of what it says.
