Brave is a Verb
“A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
The world loves to laud bravery; it is in awe of grand heroic deeds. But what if its definition of courage is too narrow? Many acts of everyday bravery go unnoticed. We are not given medals for the countless moments of courage in our daily lives. No statues are sculpted each time we face down a powerful fear. And yet, are these feats any less heroic?
Brave is a verb. It is not just an adjective that describes superheroes and warriors; it is something we do every day.
At this retreat, we will explore how to recognize the fear that tries to thwart our attempts at living courageously, and we will see how rich our lives can become when we are brave five minutes longer than we ever thought we could be. Each of us has braved so much in our lives. And once we understand how we did it the first time… we know we can do it again.
