Joy & Sorrow

Workshops /

The Buddhists have a concept that life is filled with 10,000 joys and 10,000 sorrows.  It reminds us that the two are not mutually exclusive; they are more integrated than we perceive. All things contain both joy and sorrow. Finding the joy in our moments of sorrow, and understanding the sorrow that exists in our moments of joy, can be a powerful experience. It can help us move toward a more unified perspective of our lives and relationships.

I am moving

Toward a new freedom

Born of detachment.

And a sweeter grace –

Learning to let go.

– May Sarton

In this workshop, we will use the creative process to explore this Buddhist concept, and see if a new perspective of the symbiotic relationship between joy and sorrow can lead us to a richer understanding of our experiences.
