The Shell Must Break
We all have stories we tell ourselves. Stories about who we are, or how the world works, or what life should look like. Since these are the stories we have lived with for years, even decades, we begin to accept them as truth. Eventually, we cease to question their validity or accuracy. The truth is that many of these stories are myths which were created by others and handed down to us, or created by ourselves in trying to make sense of our experiences. They are no more linked to reality than the fairy tales we listened to as children. These stories become mythical shells that confine us, limiting our potential for flight.
“The shell must break before the bird can fly.”
– Tennyson
In this workshop, we will use the creative process to explore the myths we believe without question. We will examine them, and explore the effects they have had on us and our worldview. With awareness, these shells begin to crack, and we can then decide what shells must possibly break before we can truly stretch our wings and fly.
